Damon MacNaught was born on 6/28/1974 in Delhi, New York. He now lives with his wife Shayna Snider and their two young children in Silver Point Tennessee. He earned his Bachelors degree at Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York and his Master of Fine Arts degree in Sculpture from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, Illinois. In addition to his own hot glass work MacNaught teaches Neon sign design at Cumberland University.
Damon has been working with hot glass for over nineteen years and became aware of fine millefiori paperweights when he met artist Jim Brown in 2000, although it would be almost a decade after that when he made his first weight. He says, “I find the technical challenges rewarding in my pursuit of perfection. Arranging murrini under the magnification of the glass dome speaks to properties inherent in the material and allows an outlet to practice my love of design.” MacNaught makes a good variety of geometrical canes and is now busy developing a number of good silhouettes.
A wonderful large closepack millefiori weight by Damon McNaught, one of the most promising new weight makers. The outside row of canes is pulled down to form a basket containing the design. This has a nice variety of canes including a variety of flower canes, a duck, cherries and a space invader icon. A real value!
